Mic Mussel
A unique 4 sided microphone shock mount for a multitude of mounting options for camera builds or other sound gathering situations. Designed to be compact and minimize the amount of hardware between camera build and microphone mount. The part is 3d printed in house with a resilient Nylon material for increased durability, handling and weight.
Includes specialized M3 screws, o-rings for microphone suspension, and hardware pack for ¼ & ⅜ attachment.

Each side features different mounting options:
1: ¼-20 slot for dual bolt mounting to cheese plates and cages.
2: ¼-20 slot with anti-twist foot for single bolt mounting on 15mm rail clamp or on edge plates/cages.
3: Dual bolt slots for replacing FX6/9 Microphone mount or any standard mic mount within the slot range and a ⅜ hole as a backup boom pole mount (req ⅜ nut).
4: ⅜ slot with anti-twist foot for mounting on cage edges and cheese plates.

The story of who, what and where.
Working as a camera operator and AC for the last 10 years on everything from sit down documentaries, to blue chip nature shows, and reality TV like The Amazing Race, I continually ran up against a common issue. As I was always trying to build a compact camera package, I needed a way to provide onboard microphone capabilities that didn’t increase the build envelope but still kept the microphone isolated for sound quality. Every camera build being slightly different depending on the job demanded a flexible and resilient piece of gear that would take the guess work out of what was going to be at the rental house or what rig changes there might be. The Mic Mussel was born out of that need.
Durability
Besides the strength test of being on numerous sets and out in the field over the last 2 years, the Mic Mussel has also been lab tested to make sure our choice of materials is the best we can provide. Shown here are just some extreme cases where it is resilient to impact and if crushed is still serviceable afterwords.
